Gary Player is awarded the fourth annual RTJ Society Legacy Award

Gary Player is awarded the 2025 RTJ Society Legacy Award for his lifetime of contributions to the game. In a recent videotaped interview Mr. Player recounted his historic U.S. Open win at the RTJ-designed Bellerive 60 years ago.

Robert Trent Jones

Robert Trent Jones, Sr. did not invent golf course architecture, it only seems that way. In a career that spanned nearly 70 years, Jones built or rebuilt some 400 courses in 45 states in the U. S. and 35 countries worldwide, with more than three dozen of them having played host to national or international championships.

The Society

The first meeting of the The Robert Trent Jones Society was held in 2004 in Monterey, California.  Representatives from eight of his top one hundred courses attended. We left the meeting having developed a Mission Statement, a Statement of Objectives, and plans for a great and lasting organization.  Our Mission Statement states that we will “Honor Robert Trent Jones Sr. and his work, preserve the historical information and documents pertinent to golf courses he designed, and to encourage and support the education of member clubs on his principles of design”. Since 2004 the Society has met annually at a Member location in pursuit of our Mission.
