The pristine RTJ classic, Eisenhower Blue, is hosting the US Girls’ Junior Championship this week in Colorado Springs. Steve Wallace, club delegate for the Society, has pulled out all the stops for the event which opened on Saturday at the conclusion of the first practice round. Conditions on the course, built in 1959 by RTJ, have never been better. In addition to pristine conditions and excellent weather, the opening ceremonies included a speech by astronaut, Eileen Collins, a parachute team landing on the driving range and an Air Force flyover. Adding to the festivities was a visit by RTJ Jr. who recalled fondly his father’s work.

As another first for RTJ and the USGA, this is the first USGA event held at a military base. The course features classic RTJ elements such as inspired routing, framed greens with multiple pin locations, strategic water hazards and of course, runway tees. The course is virtually unchanged since President Eisenhower hit the first tee shot. Check out a true RTJ classic as it is broadcasted Friday July 21 and Saturday July 22 on NBC Golf and Peacock.
