Greenville Country Club hosted over 65 attendees from 11 clubs from across the United States. The weekend began on Friday with attendees greeted with a personalized wooden box containing a commemorative Chanticleer bottle of wine. The Friday night cocktail reception was well attended with every club identifying their attendees. Saturday began with the RTJ Society holding their annual meeting followed by GCC club historian Kelly Odom giving a presentation on GCC’s 125-year history and GCC member Heyward Sullivan recounting first-hand how Chanticleer came to fruition. Saturday evening’s dinner program with 100 in attendance consisted of Golf Digest’s architecture editor emeritus Ron Whitten and Rees Jones having an open dialogue with the attendees.
RTJ Society executive director David Cardwell and RTJ Society president Jim Whitaker presented the Society a portrait of founding members Bob Giere and Jack Borchelt along with Robert Trent Jones Sr. The portrait will be on display at Pauma Valley.
The golf tournament was a two-day event being played at Riverside on Saturday and Chanticleer on Sunday. Winners included team gross – Spyglass Hill, Team Net – Army Navy CC, Individual Gross – Robert Fisk of Seabrook, and Individual Net – Geoff Heekin of Point O Woods.
