2024 Annual Gathering at Eisenhower Blue was a huge success

Eisenhower Blue in Colorado Springs was the site of this year’s Society Annual Gathering September 12-14th. More the 50 golfers and spouses attended a packed 3+ day event. The Society’s newest member, The Broadmoor, contributed access rounds to their famed East Course (nine holes designed by RTJ) to start the festivities on Sept 11th. More than 24 golfers took advantage of this rare treat to one of the country’s most prestigious resort course and next year’s US Senior Open Championship site.

Activities at the Air Force Academy included a reception of the 12th, a tour of the Air Force Academy on the morning of the 13th, and two rounds of golf on the prestigious Eisenhower Blue Course. Eisenhower Blue was last year’s recipient of the Society’s Delegate of the Year award for hosting the USGA Girls Junior National Championship. The Blue Course was designed by RTJ in the late 1950’s and was inaugurated by President Eisenhower. It was the first active duty military course to host a USGA event and has remained untouched in its pristine RTJ design.

Also included in the event was keynote speaker, Hollis Stacy, winner of 3 U.S. Opens and World Golf Hall of Fame inductee. Hollis is this year’s Legacy Award winner for the Society. She shared memories of Micky Wright and other greats, along with playing numerous RTJ courses around the country. She also offered insights on expanding the game, particularly inclusion efforts for women and youth at private clubs. She also provided q&a with participants and visits on the golf course.

Over the two day friendly tournament, the annual Jones Cup was won by the team from Valencia, besting nine other teams of 3-4 golfers. Low Net champions were husband and wife Allison and Keith Kucinski from the Tuxedo Club. In other RTJ Society News, the Board approved three additional clubs for 2024 – The Broadmoor (CO, 18 holes designed by RTJ in 1954), Black Hall Club (CT, 1967), and our first Canadian member London Hunt & CC (ON, 1962). This brings the membership to 42 clubs. The year’s Delegate of the Year was Tim Ross from Valencia for his efforts to recruit attendees and planning the SoCal tournament. Club of the Year went to Wiltwyck Golf Club for their restoration and veneration efforts.
