Mission Viejo Company was formed in 1963 as a land development and home building firm and soon began planning the community of Mission Viejo. In April of 1967, Mission Viejo Country Club opened its 165 acre 18-hole golf course with much anticipation and applause. Framed by Southern California’s natural beauty, Mission Viejo Country Club is a secluded retreat ideally situated between Saddleback Mountain and the pristine beaches of Laguna. Mission Viejo Country Club carries forth the old California tradition of privacy and elegance with its old-world arches, Andalusian architecture and stunning vistas.
The history of Mission Viejo Country Club is full of celebrated milestones for both the city of Mission Viejo and for the game of golf. Initially nicknamed “Mission Impossible”, the Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed championship golf course has hosted many PGA events and has also been the training ground for world-class champions such as Mark O’Meara, Cameron Tringale and Beau Hossler.
The course features classic Robert Trent Jones Sr. design features: runway tee boxes offer a variety of course lengths and allows for all types of play from 5100 to 7160 yards. Large undulating greens offer a variety of pin positions defended by a liberal collection of traps.
Signature holes include the par 3, 3rd hole (shown below left), a mirror image of Jones’ redesigned #16 at Augusta and the Par 4, 4th hole (shown below right), said to be the best par 4 in Orange County.
The par 4, 9th hole reminds the player of the 18th hole at Augusta National.
“Mission Impossible” is a well-earned moniker for this strong golf course.
