Valencia CC chosen to host Open Qualifier

Valencia CC in Santa Clarita, coming off its successful 2022 refresh will play host to the final Open qualifier June 2nd. This classic RTJ Sr. design from 1965 was recently refreshed by Straka/Fry to broad acclaim. June 2nd is the last day of qualification nationwide, commonly referred to as the “longest day” of golf as regional qualifiers span the country and time zones for the last remaining slots to play in the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont June 9-12. Longest Day rounds will likely be televised, showing off this RTJ gem.

Valencia’s pro Tim Medina and GM Mike Walker worked closely with the SCGA to gain the coveted honors. “Mike is always looking to give back and we felt Valencia would challenge the pros with both the old and the new,” stated Tim in a phone interview. “We approached the SCGA and are excited to have the pros back.” Valencia played host to the LA Open in 1998 and numerous Champions events in the early 2000’s.

Valencia has a long history of pro interaction. Valencia’s LA Open was most notably Tiger Woods first playoff loss to Billy Mayfair. PGA Champion Al Geiberger, “Mr. 59” also held the course record coming just weeks after winning at RTJ’s Firestone South. Valencia has also counted champions Jason Gore, Alison Lee and newest LPGA professional Zoe Campos as members.
